July 18, 2000 Today I went to a driver’s ed thing and scheduled a behind the wheel lesson for Thursday the 27 at 1:00pm. I also went to work for 4 hrs and went to Youth. I need to try eating less meat. I need to work out some schedule things tomorrow at work and work on my conversational skills.

July 17, 2000 Today I hung out with Steve Anderzjewski and played video games. I decided I need to work out more.

July 16, 2000 Today was Sunday. I had fun. I talked to the 1^st ward girls and I had a good time. I’ve decided to become a better conversationalist. We’ll see how it turns out.

July 15 Today I did some work, saw the X-men movie, Jonathan (Heather’s finacee) came and it was his birthday. The girls came back from Girl’s Camp.

July 14, 2000 - 15 years old

July 14 I got back from my camping trip today. It was an ok trip. I got very sunburnt. Mike Treter hurt his ankle while hiking and had to be taken to civilization on a horse from Spotted Horse Ranch where ¾ of my troop was almost arrested for trespassing. After the hike we went white water rafting, canoeing, and on a COPE course. (I had to walk across a balance beam 35 feet in the air). It was fun. On our way home we visited Yellowstone and Mt. Rushmore. Overall it was a lot of fun.

July 3, 2000 I think I’ve decided who I like, but I’m not sure. Today I had work. Our power is still out from last night’s storm. Tomorrow is Independence Day. I bought food for my camping trip.

July 2, 2000 Today was fast Sunday. I was very thirsty. Adrienne, Andrea, and Racheal (Adrienne’s and Emily’s little sister) came up to me and said “hi” and started talking. If that means anything. A storm started up at the end of the day and the power went out. Bro. Treter came by and helped my patrol with their menu. I only have 2 days until I go to the Tetons.

July 1, 2000 - 15 years old

July 1^st, 2000 This past week I had Youth Conference. It was a lot of fun. Our stake got to go help out kids at a spina bifida conference. The first day of youth conference, myself and the other room monitors got stuck in an elevator. I also learned the name of these girls that would say, “Hi, Daniel Curtis” whenever I passed. Their names are Adrienne and Emily Bednarek, Nicole, Andrea, and Katie Bashi. They turned out to be really fun people. After we got done volunteering we had a dance with all the spina bifida kids which was a lot of fun. The day after was Juan Macias’ birthday (Juan’s a fun guy from the South Shore branch) and I had a lot of fun then too. The last day of the spina bifida conference I had a blast too. I helped some preschool age kids build a dragon out of foam-things. It was also Andrea’s birthday. Cami Stokes was trying to find out if I like anyone in that group, and I told her maybe because I’m not sure myself if I do. I might just like the entire group. One of them may have a crush on me or maybe they thought I had a crush on one of them because I suddenly found out their names and started talking to them. But enough about that. I have a campout in 4 days and I still need to check my work schedule. I hope it turns out ok. If only I could know people’s thoughts, my life would be much easier. I’ve decided to go on a quest to be perfect. I will commit myself to following the commandments more closely. I may even work out a little. My prayers have been answered again. They gave me the courage to bear my testimony at the end of youth conference (or should I say God did). My dad officially sold his business yesterday. I wonder how this will affect my life.

Jun 25 Today was a good Sunday. I had a good lesson on prayer in teacher’s quorum. I went home teaching. All around it was a good day.

It was also Chris Kelly’s (my sister Susan’s boyfriend) baptism. He’s a good kid. Heather is back for the summer from college. She spent a long time talking to her fiancée, Jonathan Pugmire (I don’t know if I spelt that right). He’s a good guy too.

May 31, 2000 I prayed to do well on the finals and to make scheduling for work easier. I got off of work early and was able to study for biology. Scheduling worked out great. God answered my prayers as he had before. Everything is working for my benefit.

May 14, 2000 Today was Mother’s day so we (the kids) did extra chores, etc. for mom. The Young Men’s Presidency was released. One is in the new Presidency, but Bro. Beatse and Bro. Hagberg are no longer in the Presidency. They were very good. I need to get cracking on my Eagle Project. I also need to call Ken Guerro and invite him to church.

May 13, 2000 Today was busy. From 11-3 I was working. From 4-5:15 I was at the mall. And from 5:30-10:30 I was at a scripture bowl/dance.

May 12, 2000 Today was Spencer’s birthday. I wasn’t able to spend much time with him ‘cause of work. Other than that it was an ok Friday.

May 11, 2000 Today was a normal day at school. It was my first day working at McDonald’s. A lot of druggies work there but it’s ok and there are enough nondruggies. Overall it was a good day.

May5/6 On the 5^th I had a job interview and slept over at Steve’s. We played Axis & Allies and watched Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. Today I went to George Webb’s (the restaurant) and was officially hired at McDonald’s. I played around and ate at the Olive Garden.

May4, 2000 I got an interview scheduled for tomorrow at 4 for McDonalds. It turns out I need to be 16 or older to work at most places. Other than that the day was ordinary.

May 3, 2000 Today was a very boring school day. After school I helped a guy move his furniture. Then I went to an AFS thing with Mapi (our foreign exchange student from Chile).

            Today in gym we played soccer outside and it was wet out. I slipped and fell around 4 times and ran into a couple of people. It was ok though ‘cause I scored 2 goals. After school I applied for a job at Circuit City and looked at a job at Best Buy. They both seem pretty desperate for employees. At Scouts I ran a mile in 6min. and 9 seconds. (I was tripped twice by Pat). I also did 46 pushups and 54 situps.

            Today was a good Sunday. I learnt about charity, the atonement, and testimonies. I’ve decided to be as nice as possible and never angry. I also want to work out more.

April 29, 2000 I went on Spring Break and haven’t been able to write in my journal so I’ll backtrack through my trip (end to beginning) so I keep the days straight. (April 29) Today I came home, we left Las Vegas at noon and got home at 9:30pm. It didn’t really take that long because we went through a couple of time zones and had a 3hr. layaway in Chicago. The plane trip from Chicago to Milwaukee took about 13minutes. (April 28) Today we went to Caesar’s Palace Mall and saw a 3D show called “Ride to Atlantis,” it was so-so. We also visited a giant toy store (that was cool). Afterward we saw a comedy/magic show that was very good. For dinner we went to the “Tournament of Kings” it was like Medieval Times (knights jousting, etc.) but had more pyrotechnics and special effects. Our king (the King of Ireland) won a lot of events. Overall it was very good. (April 27) (Found out Aunt Jenny had a baby girl on April 27) Today we visited the Grand Canyon. It was very impressive. Afterwards we drove to Las Vegas and saw a Pirate show at Treasure Island. (April 26) Today we toured Mesa Verde, (it’s a place where a bunch of Native Americans lived and left ruins of cliff-cities and other things) and it was long but ok. After that we went to Four Corners and stayed at a hotel in a big Navajo Indian reservation. (April 25) Today we visited Arches National Park. It was a lot of fun. We got to climb on the Arches and everything. (April 24) Today we visited BYU bookstore and ate at Carolyn’s restaurant (she’s a waitress there). It was fun. (April 23) Today was Easter Sunday. I had a good time at church, etc. (April 22) Today I hung out with relatives and went Easter egg hunting. It was a lot of fun. (April 21) Today I hung out with friends a while and then took a plane to Las Vegas around 9:00pm. Then we started driving to Carolyn’s house.

April 20, 2000 Today I did nothing of value at school. I watched a lot of movies, etc. After school I played Steve in Starcraft (he won 1 and I won 1). I’m going on a trip tomorrow.

April 19, 2000 Today was rainy. At school I did nothing really important. After school I hung around and did almost nothing. We had missionaries over to eat.

April 18, 2000 Today I had a very boring English class. I had to drink lemon juice to stay awake. Scouts went long, so I’m getting to bed late. I also hung out at Steve’s house after school. I had a good breakfast though.

April 17, 2000 Today was pretty much a normal day. All I did was baisically hang around. I played some video games and just had fun.

April 16, 2000 Today was Stake Conference. It was ok. I also had a youth fireside. That was good. I talked a lot with Pat (one of my church friends). I’ve been thinking about a couple of things Alex said yesterday. The first comment that struck me is that he commented that he felt like he “experienced too much.” Which I think is a sign that he regrets what he’s doing. Another thing that sort of made me think he regrets his actions is that he kept on asking people if they’ve smoked marijuana or other bad things as if they did it too, he was less at fault. The second comment that hit me is he thought I was the type of person who’ld do drugs. I quickly explained my religious beliefs on the subject and now I’m wondering why he would think that.

April 15, 2000 This Saturday I went to a forensics meet in Madison. My play-acting group got a silver medal. It was weird ‘cause a kid named Alex followed me and Tom and Steve around. At one point he lit up a cigarette and started smoking. He also bought a bong to smoke marijuana. Anyway, it was an interesting day.

April 14, 2000 Today was a talent show at school (I wasn’t in it) and it went too long and I got out at 2:50 and missed the bus. Other than that the day was normal.

April 11, 2000 Today I helped at a blood drive at school. I also went to 4^th grade classes and taught them about the dangers of smoking. For Scouts I helped clean up Trimborn farm. (That’s a lot of service).

April 6, 2000 Today was Christ’s and the Church’s birthday. I went to the first ever broadcasted temple dedication. It was of the Palmyra temple and was very good. It was in the morning and I got out of 3 hours of school. About half of my classes were gone because of a band trip to Toronto.

April 2, 2000 Today was General Conference. It was a good conference with many good speeches. After conference I went to Jason Miller’s baptism. That too, was good.

April 1, 2000   Today was the first few sessions of the 170^th General Conference. It was the first in the new Conference Center. The talks were good. The priesthood session hit porn pretty hard. So far, so good. We (my family) ate at Ponderosa for lunch.

            Today was Friday. After school I went to Steve’s house, then went to a school play, and then played on my computer for a while.

            Today I spent almost the entire school day training to teach little kids about the drawbacks of smoking. At 3:30 I went to a math meet and I stayed there until 6:00.             Today I went to school and when I came back I called the Milwaukee Historical Society (about my Eagle project), but no one was there. After that I went to Andy’s house to study (Steve and Tom were there too). Then I went to Scouts and worked on my Citizenship in the Community merit badge. Cami seemed a little distant, so I’m wondering if my previous thoughts about her were misguided. The day seemed long but busy, which I think are some of the worst kinds of days. Tomorrow it will be good to get some things done with.

            Today was a long school day. I have 2 test/quizzes on Wednesday that I need to study for. Steve (a friend of mine), Andy (a friend of mine), and Tom (another friend of mine) came over to study for the Biology test Wednesday. Tomorrow I have a lot to do. I’m going to bed at about 10 (late for me).

New Journal, March 26, 2000-15 years old

My name is Daniel Curtis, and this is my journal. Today is march 26^th, 2000, a Fast Sunday. Next week is General Conference. I’m starting a journal in an attempt to become more righteous. I’ll explain more about my family, friends, etc. as I go along. In Fast and Testimony meeting I passed the sacrament (I’m 15) and heard lots of good testimonies. One that I found odd was this lady talked about a “Touched by an Angel” episode (?). Anyway, I shouldn’t focus on the negative. Cami was acting a little odd today by telling Pat to stop bothering me (Cami is the mission president’s daughter and Pat is a friend of mine). I have some suspicions about Cami liking me, but I may just be a little self-absorbed and mistaking friendship for infatuation. I wonder how long it is until she goes back to Utah? I’ll miss her.

10-28-97 I felt like writing in you. John finally moved to Utah. The town I think is Tooele. I lost his letter so now I can’t write back. He seems to be doing well. Jacob is in Disneyworld for the week. So is Miriam Wilson. That is totally a coincidence. We have a big project in Social Studies. There are 2 girls I’m interested in now. One much more than the other. This one I am describing is Meaghan Driscoll. This is only temporary for 4 reasons #1. She isn’t Mormon #2 She probably doesn’t like me #3 all middle and high school relationships are usually temporary #4 she probably doesn’t like me. The other one is Miriam probably ‘cause she’s Mormon, but #’s 2-4 still apply. Right now I’m guessing it will go away by age 16 and most likely before then. In Spanish we’re studying “el dia de los muertos” or Day of the Dead. For that I’m doing extra credit. I’ve been looking over my past entries and realizing many things #1 I’m bad at Journal Writing #2 I’m strange and many other things. I got a suit yesterday if that’s exciting. Do you know what I’ve decided? Writing in a journal is very relaxing. You can write whatever you want! I guess I don’t write in you often as I never have time! (thanks to school). Did you know I’m an uncle? Brooke had her baby September 23 or 24. (I can’t remember). I need some way to remember to write in you more often.
